True tones

Nokia launched True tones in 2003. Many web sites also talk about True tones or Real tones when they refer to ring tones that can have extra sounds in them like singing or other strange sounds.

Nokia True tones

The Nokia 3300 was the first cell phone supporting Nokia true tones, which provide ring tones with real music, allowing users to have songs, sounds and special effects to alert them of an incoming call. Nokia True tones are based on the Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) technology.

True tones format

Compared to monophonic or MIDI ring tones True tones are easier to compose. The "good" compression algorith also makes it possible to keep the ringtone file sizes small.
